    The School Social Worker is a resource person whose primary responsibility is to help students reduce social and emotional difficulties so that they may achieve reasonable academic success and develop rewarding personal relationships. School social work may involve working with pupils individually, in small groups, or through methods which involve a total classroom population.

    I. Complies with all published and disseminated rules, regulations, and policies of the Board of Education.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the Connecticut Common Core of Teaching, theConnecticut Common Core of Learning and the Connecticut Framework documents and their role in facilitation-improved student learning.
    • Complies with all published and disseminated rules, regulations and policies of the Federal and State Department of Education as they apply to special education.
    • Participates as a member of the Planning and Placement Team in evaluating the student's educational needs, and develops and implements recommendations of the team.
    • Assists students and families when problems interfere with the student's educational functioning.
    • Assists students to increase self-awareness and problem solving skills in order to function more productively in school and community.
    • Participates in modifying school environment to enable students to have successful educational experiences.
    • Promotes effective communication among the home, community and school, and serves as an advocate for students.
    • Mobilizes available resources, and works directly with staff, families and students toward the resolution of crisis situations.
    10. Provides instructional and supportive personnel with necessary information regarding the social and emotional functioning of students within the guidelines of confidentiality.
    l l . Facilitates transitions which involve a change of placement for students.
