SUMMARY:
Shift is from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Peer Support Specialist provides a variety of recovery-oriented services to individuals who have self-identified as desiring peer supports to facilitate greater independence, community integration and recovery from homelessness. The Peer Support Specialist by definition is a person in recovery who will utilize their personal recovery experience to instill a sense of hope and optimism in persons in recovery, promote and contribute to the development of a culture of recovery and empowerment within and outside of The Bridge and will uphold the integrity of program goals. In addition, the Peer Support Specialist will complete detailed and accurate case notes and other reports to document program measures including, but not limited to National Outcome Measures devised by SAMHSA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist in orientation process for persons new to The Bridge services, including the Guests Giving Back (GGB) program.
· Engage and educate individuals in the Wellness Recovery Plan Process as a means to recognize early triggers and signs of relapse and use individual coping strategies as an alternative to more restrictive services.
· Lead support and life skills group sessions
· Collaborate with the professional staff about the recovery process.
· Support the individual in seeking to connect/reconnect with family, friends, significant others, and in learning how to improve or eliminate unhealthy relationships.
· Communicate with the Care Management team to keep them informed about individual’s strengths, accomplishments, and obstacles in relation to their recovery goals.
· Model personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness through telling one’s personal recovery story, how needs are respectfully met, and how a belief in oneself is maintained.
· Exhibits a nonjudgmental approach, effective listening, good eye contact and positive interactions.
· Collaborate by participating in treatment planning, team meetings, and assisting with goal setting. Collaborate by working stations at The Bridge when requested.
· Assess emergency situations, notify supervisor and/or appropriate clinical and administrative personnel of actual or potential problems.
· Outreach/accompany to ensure the individual is making a successful transition to community integration and is continuing their progress toward recovery goals.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of recovery-based concepts and trauma-informed care
· Lived experience in the recovery process.
· Able and willing to work flexible hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma, or GED required.
· Minimum One (1) year collective engagement in mental health recovery services
· Capacity to attend a Peer Specialist Certification Training and qualify for State Board
Certification Examination.
WORK ENVIORNMENT:
This position requires walking for extended periods of time when engaging with our guest. We serve the homeless so that is the population that this position will interact. There are times when covering a post, there will be hours of sitting.
