Job Overview
ThriveVA Counseling Group is seeking a qualified and compassionate Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mental health counseling and a passion for helping individuals, particularly children and families, navigate their mental health challenges. This role requires expertise in various therapeutic modalities and the ability to work collaboratively with clients to develop effective treatment plans.
Position Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in human services or related field (social work, psychology, psychiatric rehabilitation, sociology, counseling, human services counseling or other degree deemed equivalent to those described) from an accredited College or University
- At least one year of clinical experience providing direct services to children/adults with a diagnosis of mental illness.
- Knowledge of counseling skills and techniques.
- Knowledge of mental health services and agencies.
- Maintain client files in compliance with DBHDS and Integrated Health Services
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to clients, utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments and diagnostic evaluations to determine appropriate treatment strategies.
- Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each client, including those with developmental disabilities and PTSD.
- Engage in crisis management and behavior management strategies to support clients during critical situations.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, including ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding, while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care, including direct support for clients in inpatient or outpatient settings.
- Participate in clinical research initiatives aimed at improving therapeutic practices within the organization.
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Proven experience in psychotherapy, clinical counseling, or social work, particularly with children and families.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and patient care protocols.
- Experience with telehealth services is a plus.
- Background in special education or working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with various therapeutic approaches such as art therapy, dance therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and applied behavior analysis.
