Examples of Duties
This position is located in the General Services Unit of the Adult Services Section. This person in this position may perform job duties for Special Assistance In-Home Services, Representative Payee Services, Adult Daycare, and/or Homemaker Services based on business needs. The primary responsibility of this position is to evaluate customers and their support systems to assess their capacity for managing daily living activities. This includes the development of person-centered service plans and ongoing follow-up as necessary. The social worker will be responsible for delivering individual family adjustment services and performing comprehensive functional assessments and reassessments to identify strengths and needs. Home visits and community visits are required, as well as regular phone contact with customers and collaterals. This position will provide case management, monitoring, counseling, crisis intake coverage, and complete referrals. The social worker may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Directly Related Experience is defined as Human Services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning.
Applicants may qualify for a work against appointment with a certain degree of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework group work and community problems. Knowledge of the psychosocial, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources. Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment is required in certain programs or settings. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial. behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problem. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative superiors' members of case load and their families, and with civics medical, social and religious organizations. Ability to train or instruct lower-level social workers, students, or interns. Ability to express Ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work.

The employee in this position will be operating motor vehicles for Cumberland County and shall have a valid North Carolina Drivers License.
Each applicant who is tendered an offer for employment for any position with Cumberland County shall be tested for the use of drugs specified in the County policy. Refusal to submit to testing or a confirmed positive test shall be a basis for withdrawal of the conditional employment offer.
Law enforcement background check is required.
Duties of this position require the use of the employees personal vehicle.
This position will be required to assist in emergency and/or disaster situations.
The Cumberland County Department of Social Services has a dress code policy that must be adhered to. This policy includes specific guidelines related to tattoos and body piercing.
