SUBSTANCE USE & ADDICTION SPECIALIST

Kind Heart Healthcare Solutions is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Addiction Specialist for our NEW Community Support Team (CST) program. PLEASE BE REMINDED THAT THIS IS A NEW PROGRAM WHICH MEANS THAT WE WILL BE STARTING WITH A SMALL CASELOAD & GROW INTO A LARGER CASELOAD OVER TIME. This role position serves adults with severe mental illness and substance use disorders, providing comprehensive, community-based services to support recovery and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides clinical oversight and supervision to a multidisciplinary CST of licensed clinicians, case managers, peer specialists, and nurses
- Ensures team delivers high-quality, person-centered, evidence-based services in accordance with CST model and NC Medicaid requirements
- Conducts comprehensive clinical and substance use assessments, utilizing evidence-based assessment tools
- Collaborates with clients and team to develop individualized, strengths-based treatment plans addressing both mental health and substance use needs
- Provides direct clinical services including individual and group therapy utilizing EBPs such as CBT, ACT, MI, IDDT, and specialized addiction treatment modalities
- Delivers specialized substance use disorder interventions and coordinates with recovery support services
- Monitors client progress, program outcomes, and quality metrics; utilizes data to improve services
- Serves as a clinical expert in addiction treatment; provides consultation and training to team and community partners
- Collaborates with community providers and stakeholders to ensure continuity of care and maximize client success
- Ensures compliance with all documentation, service delivery, and quality assurance requirements for both CST and substance use disorder services
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provides psychoeducation as indicated in the PCP.
- Assists with crisis interventions.
- Assists the Team Lead with behavioral and substance use disorder treatment interventions.
- Assists with the development of relapse prevention and disease management strategies.
- Coordinates the initial and ongoing assessment activities.
- Develops the initial PCP and its ongoing revisions and ensures its implementation.
- Consults with identified medical (i.e., primary care and psychiatric) and non-medical providers, engages community and natural supports, and includes their input in the person-centered planning process.
- Ensures linkage to the most clinically appropriate and effective services including arranging for psychological and psychiatric evaluations.
- Monitors and documents the status of the beneficiary’s progress and the effectivenessof the strategies and interventions outlined in the PCP.
- Completes functional needs assessment(s) to determine the scope and anticipated outcomes to the services.
- Participates in the initial development, implementation, and ongoing revision of the PCP .
- Communicates the beneficiary’s progress and the effectiveness of the strategies and interventions to the Team Lead as outlined in the PCP.
- Provides intensive case management.
- Linkage and referral to formal and informal supports.
- Monitoring and follow up.
- Completes functional needs assessment(s) to determine the scope and anticipatedoutcomes to the services.
Qualifications:
Must hold one of the following credentials:
- Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS)
- Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS)
- Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
- Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)
- Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3 years post-master's experience serving adults with severe mental illness and substance use disorders
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams
- Expertise in evidence-based mental health and substance abuse interventions
- Strong clinical, leadership, and communication skills
- Knowledge of local behavioral health, substance use treatment, and social service systems
- Proficiency in MS Office and electronic health records
- Demonstrates competence in substance use disorder assessment and treatment
- Proficiency in applying ASAM criteria and utilizing evidence-based SUD assessment tools
- Experience with addiction treatment modalities and recovery-oriented systems of care
- Knowledge of co-occurring disorder treatment approaches
- Ability to provide clinical supervision to substance use counselors and associates
- Valid driver's license and auto insurance
