POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a dedicated Peer Support Specialist with personal experience in overcoming substance use disorders to join our team. In this role, you will provide compassionate support, share your own journey of recovery, and empower individuals struggling with alcoholism and substance use to achieve and maintain sobriety and contributing to the overall success of the organization.

Community Health Worker/Peer Support Specialist Responsibilities:
1. Peer Support:
  • Establish rapport with individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Share personal experiences of recovery to inspire hope and provide relatable guidance.
2. Individualized Support:
  • Collaborate with clients to identify strengths, triggers, and recovery goals.
  • Assist individuals in developing personalized recovery plans and relapse prevention strategies.
3. Advocacy:
  • Advocate for clients' rights and preferences within the substance use treatment system.
  • Support individuals in accessing and navigating relevant community resources.
4. Education and Training:
  • Conduct group sessions to provide education on addiction, recovery tools, and coping mechanisms.
  • Facilitate workshops on life skills, stress management, and relapse prevention.
5. Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress.
  • Provide timely reports and updates to the supervisory team.
6. Crisis Intervention:
  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support during challenging times.
  • Collaborate with crisis intervention teams and emergency services when necessary.


Qualifications:
  • Personal experience with successful recovery from a substance use disorder
  • Completion of a Peer Support Specialist training program.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of local substance use treatment resources and services.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist.
  • Previous experience working in a substance use treatment or recovery-focused setting.
  • Familiarity with harm reduction strategies.
