Located on a 27-acre wooded campus, Fairmount Behavioral Health System is a peaceful, therapeutic environment for patients and families. Fairmount is a major regional resource for children, adolescents and adults who have psychiatric and behavioral problems as well as alcohol and drug dependency needs. The spacious campus borders Fairmount Park in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. With one of the leading alcohol and drug detox and rehab programs in Philadelphia, Fairmount is the provider of choice for individuals requiring specialized co-occurring psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment. We are currently seeking full-time Music/Art to join our team.
Qualifications
The Music/Art Therapist is responsible for assessing patients’ leisure and recreational activities, providing age and developmentally appropriate therapy groups using a combination of activities, creative arts modalities, and talk therapy, helping patients develop safety/crisis plans, and establishing behavioral treatment goals in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Fairmount Behavioral Health System. Qualifications
The Music/Art Therapist is responsible for assessing patients’ leisure and recreational activities, providing age and developmentally appropriate therapy groups using a combination of activities, creative arts modalities, and talk therapy, helping patients develop safety/crisis plans, and establishing behavioral treatment goals in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Fairmount Behavioral Health System. This individual is responsible for that but are not limited to:
- Assists in assessing the patient’s admission and provides consistent updates through the patient’s stay.
- Performs and documents appropriately Allied Therapy and other assessments on assigned patients within 72 hours of admission with consideration to age, mental, social, and physical status. Identifies patient’s abilities to utilize their strengths healthfully, integrating information obtained through relevant sources; assures that the Safety/Crisis plan is completed with each patient.
- Actively participates in development of Master Treatment plan, collaboratively identifying and incorporating realistic and measurable therapeutic goals and interventions and reassesses at least every 7 days or accordingly.
- Practices within the policies of the department and the hospital.
- In collaboration with Director of Allied Therapy and unit leader’s designs, reviews and revises group therapy programming to provide comprehensive delivery of age-appropriate services.
- Understands and demonstrates the core elements of group therapy, including therapeutic factors, group leadership and various types of groups.
- Uses supervision to develop new skills/
- Utilizes open, reflective and non-judgmental communications with patients that is clear, appropriate in volume and consistent with evidence-based practices.
- Understands and demonstrates the core elements of evidence-based treatment
- Provides ongoing patient/family education according to individual needs, considering factors influencing learning, documents therapeutic encounters accurately and thoroughly in patient’s medical record.
- Reacts in supportive, coordinated way with other team members.
- Supports the delivery and integration of services through team building with all department members, including as acting as preceptor to any new member and, as assigned, supervising student.
- Assists Allied Therapy Director in any other requested/required tasks.
- Adheres to the Mission and Values of Fairmount Behavioral Health.

Additional Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree in allied health or related counseling/clinical field
- Experience: One (1) year prior experience in the Allied Therapy field working with people in recovery from mental health disorders preferred
- Knowledge: Knowledge of group therapy process and group leadership skills, evidence based and best practices, age specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management.
