Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree in social work, counseling or psychology. Licensed and certified to provide therapeutic treatment in the State of Maryland (i.e. LMSW, LCSW-C, LGPC, LCPC). A commitment to trauma informed care and cultural awareness.

Overview:

The ideal candidate for the school based mental health therapist position will enjoy working within the school environment to build relationships with the entire school community.

School Based Therapists work within their school community to identify students in need of individual, family, and group counseling to address behavioral health symptoms that interfere with their ability to function in the school, home, and community. School based therapy offers the therapist the ability to see clients experience frustrations in real time and effectively work on managing symptoms, as well as, work directly with school staff to help support students. School Based Therapists will work in collaboration with other support services, such as making referrals to psychiatry, care coordination, and PRP as clinically needed.

While working with clients in therapy is an important piece of this position, our school -based therapists work within the school community to provide prevention services to improve the entire communities ability to identify signs of behavioral health symptoms and cope effectively. These prevention services include classroom lessons on mental health related topics, staff training on mental health related topics, teacher consultations, attending school meetings and small groups.

We are looking for clinicians who are trauma aware and culturally aware in their interactions with students, families, and the school community. We welcome individuality and creativity within our program, but awareness and desire to adhere to therapeutic evidence - based practices are needed for this position.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Complete biopsychosocial intake assessments for students referred to the school based mental health clinic.
  • Complete diagnosis evaluation for each client
  • Provide individual, family and group counseling
  • Develop and provide prevention activities in small groups, classrooms and whole school
  • Develop treatment plans, monitor treatment progress, and follow-up at disposition
  • Maintain daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting on activities performed within the school
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records consistent with COMAR regulations
  • Respond to crisis, provide interventions and support to school staff
  • Contact parents/caregivers and other essential individuals on a monthly basis for status updates and support
  • Complete documentation within 24 hours of service delivery
  • Work on an interdisciplinary team including psychiatry, care coordination, PRP.
  • Advocate client needs within the school settings through informal meetings and formal meetings such as IEP/504 plan.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings, trainings, and chart audits with Hope Health Systems, Inc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and Program Director
