Job Responsibilities

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Columbia Area Mental Health Center, Adult Clinic Services (ACS), CAMHC #041.

The Office of Mental Health’s mission is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

As the Mental Health Professional I, working under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, you will provide intensive case management to a diverse and challenging consumer population of adults with chronic psychiatric and co-occurring disorders, with the intent to prevent or minimize hospitalization and enhance community placement.

Responsibilities for this Mental Health Professional I:
  • Provide an array of clinical services to promote recovery, stabilization and independence based on the patient's needs and plan of care. Perform the functions of this position in an efficient manner as evidenced by staff meeting patient care hour expectation as addressed in Productivity Protocol for the months included in this rating period.
  • Document services provided and maintain patient's medical records according to CAMHC, Medicaid, quality assurance, corporate compliance, and CARF standards. Conduct job duties within Federal, State, and Agency corporate compliance guidelines. Success also will be measured by CIS, supervisor review, peer review, and corporate compliance audits, and performance. Incorporate Collaborative Documentation into services provided to patients to improve patient engagement and timely documentation of services.
  • Maintain competency in at least one Evidence Based Practice. Ensure patient functionality and services received coincide with DLA-20 rating.
  • Participate in team meetings with clinical staff, provide input on patients, present assessments and discuss methods of service delivery.
  • Perform administrative functions including maintenance of medical records in accordance with QA standards.
  • Comply with the Office of Mental Health/CAMHC polices and protocols applicable Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, Cultural Competence and CARF policies, procedures and regulations and all Federal and State laws, as well as attend all trainings classified as mandatory by Federal and State regulations.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Licensure as a LPC, LISW, etc.

Additional Comments

Post hire, employees must:

  • Have knowledge of psychopathology, diagnostics, counseling, case management and recovery.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills to work with consumers, families and other agencies.
  • Have knowledge of local agencies and facilities.
  • Have the ability to provide services to serious, persistent mentally ill persons and the dually diagnosed.
  • Be able to function independently and with minimal supervision.
