BASIC FUNCTION:
Tutors will provide tutoring services to Upward Bound Math & Science students during Saturday sessions and virtually on weekdays when requested by the student.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
None
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Upward Bound Math & Science tutors are responsible to the Project Director for providing academic support to project participants during the assigned hours and tutoring sites assigned.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Tutors should be punctual to all assigned tutoring sessions.
  • Tutors will work with students individually or in group sessions to work through assigned lessons, review principles, and solve problems.
  • Facilitates reading and writing labs to improve writing, word processing, study, and other academic skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Tutors must be able to communicate effectively with program participants, relate to project participants from diverse backgrounds, and motivate and encourage students toward positive academic endeavors.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Tutors must have a high school diploma, strong knowledge of academic subject that they would like to tutor, and the ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
