Sexual Assault Victim Advocate PRN (Rathgeber Village Campus)

SAFE Alliance seeks a Sexual Assault Victim Advocate PRN (SAVA) for the Community Services Program in the Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy department. The Sexual Assault Victim Advocate PRN will commit to a minimum of 40 hours of on-call per month. You self-schedule, so there is ample flexibility. PRN Advocatess are not onsite while on-call; you may or may not be dispatched during your shift.

The SAFE Alliance exists to stop abuse for everyone by serving the survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, and domestic violence. We are dedicated to ending violence through prevention, advocacy, and comprehensive services for individuals, families, and communities that have been affected by abuse.

In the past two years, our community outreach and education has provided over 400 trainings to over 7,000 community members. Our various housing and shelter programs have provided over 46,000 nights/days of care and served over 3,000 youth and adults directly affected by abuse. We have provided over 10,000 callers/chats/texts, walk-in advocacy and crisis interventions or face-to-face emotional support through our 24/7 confidential SAFEline.

Position Details:

We are looking for one person to work on a full-time, non-exempt basis for an hourly salary of $21.77 and a $30 on-call bonus for an 8-hour shift. The work location will be based at our Rathgeber Village Campus in the Mueller area. This position will include some travel in the community or between campuses with no ability for remote/hybrid work. SAVA's must have and maintain reliable transportation and be able to arrive at any medical facility in Travis County within 1 hour. This position requires a flexible work schedule in order to meet the demands of the Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy program as the department maintains a staggered workweek to provide 24/7 services. Attendance is required once a month at an evening team meeting.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in social or behavioral sciences, or related field, preferred OR 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in customer service, direct medical client support, legal advocacy, law enforcement or behavioral/social services
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Knowledge of issues related to gender-based violence, sexual assault and domestic violence.
  • Must have ability to remain calm while providing crisis stabilization and establish rapport and trust without self-disclosure of your personal history.
  • Must be able to work well with a variety of other first responders including medical staff, forensic nurse examiners, law enforcement and victim services.
  • You must have and maintain reliable transportation and state-required vehicle insurance and registration during participation in the program and arrive at any medical facility in Travis County in less than 60 minutes.
  • Emergency Departments recommend annual flu shot; working in hospital environments may include exposure to patients with a multitude of medical conditions.
  • Proficient in the use of office applications and data entry is required as significant computer work is required.
  • Ability to preform primarily non-sedentary work requiring exertion up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Must be sighted and hearing, with reasonable accommodations, and able to stand in small spaces for 1 or more hours during accompaniments.
  • Working in medical environments may include exposure to patients with a multitude of medical conditions. Hazards include exposure to communicable diseases and blood borne pathogen exposure. Emergency Departments recommend annual flu shot. COVID19 vaccination is required for clinic and hospital clearance.
  • Advocates are dispatched to any medical facility in Travis County and must present to accompaniment site within one hour of dispatch.
  • This position requires driving.
  • You must have a valid, State of Texas Driver's License (If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver's License within 90 days of beginning employment.) AND at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age AND an acceptable driving record that covers at least the last three years of driver history.
  • This position requires completion of the 40-Hour Office of Attorney General Sexual Assault Advocacy Training Program in person within six (6) months of starting employment, along with participating in annual continuing education throughout your employment.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check if applicable), as well as a pre-employment drug screen and TB test, if applicable.
