ICJA Social Services Counselor
Ida Crown Jewish Academy is proud of its commitment to addressing diverse academic and social-emotional needs, all within a college-prep environment. The Social Service Department is crucial to ensuring that students at ICJA have access to the necessary therapeutic resources to help them succeed in school. The Social Services Counselor works directly with the director of the department and supports students by coordinating needed outside services, working with the Academic Services department to modify programs/classes as needed, and guiding faculty to create learning opportunities that will support student needs.
Social Services Counselor Responsibilities and Duties:
Advises and counsels students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.
Remains accessible and strives to know every student for whom they are responsible.
Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters, including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual students’ academic and educational needs and abilities.
Participates in Student of Concern meetings, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with behavioral health specialists.
Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and refers students to behavioral health specialists as needed.
Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists to develop and implement student supports.
Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.
Academic Credentials
Master’s Degree in Counseling/Guidance, or Social Work.
