Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist (PSS) to provide recovery-oriented support to individuals participating in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Substance Use Disorder (SUD). The PSS utilizes their own lived experience in recovery to offer hope, encouragement, and practical guidance, fostering an environment of trust and empowerment. In addition to peer support duties, the PSS assists with transportation to and from treatment sessions and other approved recovery-related appointments.

Key Responsibilities:
Peer Support & Recovery Coaching
- Build rapport and maintain supportive relationships with clients based on mutual respect and shared lived experience.
- Share personal recovery experiences when appropriate to inspire hope and demonstrate the reality of recovery.
- Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and developing action steps to achieve them.
- Provide ongoing encouragement, resources, and referrals to community-based supports.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate peer support groups, recovery skills workshops, and wellness activities.
- Encourage clients’ self-advocacy, engagement in treatment, and connection to sober support networks.
Transportation Support
- Provide safe, timely transportation for clients to and from IOP sessions, recovery-related appointments, or other approved destinations.
- Ensure vehicles are maintained in safe operating condition and comply with all safety regulations.
- Adhere to confidentiality and privacy requirements while providing transportation.
- Assist clients with mobility needs when entering or exiting the vehicle, if applicable.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with clinical and case management staff to coordinate care and address barriers to treatment.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of services provided, including peer interactions and transportation logs.
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and required training sessions.
Qualifications:
- Lived experience in recovery from Substance Use Disorder, with at least 2 years of continuous recovery preferred.
- Completion of (or willingness to complete) state-approved Peer Support Specialist training/certification.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate support.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and drive for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, if needed.
