Job Description
Qualifications:
  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.
  • Counseling endorsement.
  • Must be bilingual English/Spanish.

Responsibilities:
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with principals, staff, and parents.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to compromise.
  • Good initiative, flexibility, dependability, and organizational skills.
  • Review, evaluate, and interpret academic transcripts from foreign countries to determine appropriate grade-level and course placement for newly enrolled English Learners (ELs).
  • Collaborate with registrars, school counselors, and EL program coordinators to ensure accurate credit transfer and alignment with graduation requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of international education systems, grading scales, and credential equivalencies.
  • Communicate findings and placement recommendations clearly with students, families, and staff, using culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate practices.
  • Ensure equitable access to academic programs by identifying potential for advanced coursework, CTE pathways, or support services based on prior academic history.
  • Document all transcript evaluations and maintain records in compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with teachers, other school counselors, Bilingual Family Specialists, and administrators on specific cases.
  • Act as a resource to other professionals and paraprofessionals working with English Learners, especially support for SLIFE and drop-out prevention.
  • Maintain close contact with community agencies in order to access services for the English Learners.
  • Participate in team programming and conceptualization of new services as needs evolve.

Salary:
Salary will be based on the FY2025-26 salary schedule.
