Position Summary: Person in this position will be responsible for providing a variety of programs related to substance abuse for clients participating in the program. Essential job functions include those listed below.



Essential Job Functions:

  • Complete assessment of each client with required assessment tools.
  • Initiate and sustain each individuals motivation to participate in treatment, using techniques of engagement including therapeutic relationships, individual counseling, and brief interventions based on the stages of change.
  • Develop a comprehensive service plan for each client that includes the results of assessments, and short- and long-term treatment goals and objectives of the client (the service plan is developed with the input of the client, but within the limitations imposed by IDOC).
  • Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based education groups on concepts such as therapeutic communities, emotional incarceration, relapse prevention, motivation for treatment and stages of change, communicable diseases, cognitive skills, conflict resolution, social skills, and moral development.
  • Assist clients in developing self-help groups, such as AA/NA, for mutual support in recovery.
  • Maintain individual client treatment files in accordance with agency policies, including documentation of vocational/educational activities, and ensure files are securely stored.
  • Provide general client supervision, including planning and scheduling therapeutic activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to laws and regulations, including obtaining signed release forms for case file reviews.
  • Keep detailed records of client participation, including IDOC number, service dates, hours, and days of participation.
  • Submit all client data weekly for database entry.
  • Attend required staff development and training sessions covering assessments, clinical skills, service planning, and other relevant topics.
  • Embrace and embody the mission, vision, and principles of WestCare Foundation.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Hold clinical certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor from IAODAPCA or equivalent.
  • Meet requirements within two years of employment; work under supervision until then; sign and adhere to a professional code of ethics.

Training:

  • Complete 40 hours of continuing education biennially if licensed as CADC.
  • Obtain 150 hours of clinical supervision and 225 hours of training/education within two years, including specific coursework, and pass the CADC exam for licensure.

Education:

  • Masters or bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of offender populations, substance abuse assessment tools, and therapeutic community concepts.
  • Experience with intake and assessment preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, with excellent time management and computer skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass background checks, obtain necessary clearances, and adhere to confidentiality standards.


Working Conditions

  • Primarily in an institutional setting; outdoor activities may be required.

The employee must be able to perform essential duties with or without accommodations, including:

  • Physical activity such as standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and defending oneself and clients.
  • Talking, hearing, and seeing clearly to communicate and observe.
  • Working under stress and in emotionally charged environments.
