About Job

Located within Millersville Elementary School in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Sheppard Pratt School offers a 10-month special education program serving students in grades one through five with autism spectrum disorder, multiple disabilities, and other health impairments. Being housed within Millersville Elementary allows us to share access to the school’s facilities and resources, fostering collaboration and integration opportunities when appropriate. This position is a 10-month opportunity that runs throughout the school year.

What to expect.

We are seeking a licensed social worker or counselor to play a crucial role in providing clinical mental health support to students with emotional and behavioral disabilities, including autism. You will support students and their families in overcoming personal and environmental challenges.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Providing individual, family, and group counseling to help students overcome personal and environmental challenges affecting their psychosocial well-being.
  • Playing an essential role on the treatment team by assisting in the creation, execution, and assessment of treatment plans, including Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Partnering with school systems and helping families connect with appropriate community resources, while coordinating with local social service agencies as needed.
  • Providing essential support to the program by handling non-therapist responsibilities, helping maintain smooth operations, and contributing to the program’s overall effectiveness and success.
  • Ability to take on leadership roles as second-in-command within the school structure, stepping in as acting administration as needed in the absence of the Program Coordinator.

What we need from you.

A Social Worker must have one of the following at time of hire, or must submit required documents to apply for licensure within 30 days of accepting the position:

  • Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C)

Per MSDE requirements, a social worker filling this position must also provide verification of having completed 3 semester hours or State-approved CPD credits in special education and possess a MSDE Certification as a School Social Worker.

The pay range for this position is $66,019.20 minimum to $105,414.40 maximum. Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, license and years and level of related experience.
