Responsibilities

This is a hospital-based position that collaborates with medical, surgical, emergency, and social work services to address complex medical and behavioral health needs of patients at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Responsibilities include providing care for individuals experiencing delirium, mood, psychotic, anxiety, substance use, and somatic symptom disorders, among others. The Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry service also works closely with patients under the Involuntary Treatment Act with Single Bed Certification. The psychiatrists play a key role in educating clinical teams about behavioral health care, including involvement with multiple residency programs. This position offers a collaborative, team-based environment working alongside physicians, advanced practitioners, trainees, nurses, social workers, and other health professionals.

The consult psychiatry team operates weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm, with no overnight or weekend responsibilities currently, as these are covered by an external telepsychiatry service. As the Section Head, you would provide strategic oversight and leadership for Hospital Psychiatry, working with the Department of Medicine and the Department of Hospital Care to meet strategic and business goals, ensure high-quality evidence-based care, and develop the team.

• BE/BC Psychiatrist
• Consultation-Liaison Fellowship training and C-L Board Certification preferred
• Psychiatry leadership experience
• Ability to obtain a medical license in Washington State
• Ability to obtain a DEA license with full prescriptive authority for specific practice

Compensation includes a stipend.
