Job Title: SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
Supervised by/Reports to: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Goals:
- To act as liaison between school, home, and community to provide prevention, assessment, intervention, and support services to enhance academic, social, and emotional success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from a School of Social Work accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
- Valid license issued by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a social work practice setting working with children, youth, and families; substance abused; mental health issues is preferred but not required.
- Valid Alabama driver’s license.
- Such other alternatives as the Board may deem acceptable.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Support to students/parents by providing:
- Crisis prevention/intervention
- Conflict resolution strategies
- Case service coordination.
- Individual, family, and/or group counseling.
- Development and assessment of student assistance plans.
- Agency referral and collaboration.
- Appropriate documentation of services rendered.
- Home visits.
- Assistance with special education services.
- Support to school personnel by providing:
- Consultation with school professionals.
- Program monitoring and evaluating program success.
- Staff in-service training.
- Educational system assessment and program development.
- Multidisciplinary services.
- Support to school community by providing:
- Advocacy for students, family, and school.
- Program planning and evaluation.
- Mediation training.
- Resource development.
- Possesses good interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner.
- Adheres to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Professional Standards and Code of Ethics.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Salary: Salary to be established by The Limestone County School’s District Salary. Position is dependent upon funding by the Children First grant.
