About Job

Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health residential treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, is seeking a Group Counselor (32 hours)

Scope: To facilitate group therapy with clients at the West and Rollins Campuses when needed during Day Treatment hours. To document and otherwise communicate client participation in group therapy with the rest of the recovery team.

Duties:

  • Conduct Day Services groups and document in EHR. Develop and utilize curriculum and community resources to plan and facilitate (or co-facilitate) assigned day treatment groups.
  • Utilize curriculum resources to plan, facilitate and/or co-facilitate assigned day treatment groups with the assistance of the Group Schedule Coordinator.
  • Communicate with other clinical staff any client issues that arise in group sessions.
  • Assist with coordination of the group schedule, including updates, communications with staff and clients, and providing planned and emergency group coverage as needed. Assist in developing holiday group schedules and coordinate coverage.
  • Support Primary Counselors with emergency coverage and/or full coverage as needed.
  • To complete all documentation in accordance with guidelines.
  • Attends treatment team meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with annual update of group description list.
  • Update group curricula as needed.
  • To practice ethically and to comply with facility policies and accreditation standards (i.e., Joint Commission, ORS, etc.)
  • When appropriate, to ensure that client needs are being addressed in regard to improving their independent living skills. Assist, teach and/or model necessary and appropriate daily living skills to program participants.
  • Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Competencies: This position should have sufficient preparedness in the following areas:

  • Identify client in need of additional clinical support
  • Group facilitation skills
  • Curriculum development
  • Knowledge of modalities such as CBT, DBT, and mindfulness as they pertain to group therapy
  • Able to complete documentation in complete and timely manner in electronic health record
  • Demonstrate urgency, consistency, and professionalism regarding all Skyland Trail responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders
  • Practice ethically and professionally
  • Knowledge and ability to enforce HIPAA standards and Skyland Trail Confidentiality Policies
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures for fire, disaster and unplanned incidents
  • Knowledge of CPR and First Aid Procedure and involvement in provided training at Skyland Trail

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in related field (i.e.; Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.) and/or two (2) + years of clinical experience in the mental health field.
  • Prior group facilitation skills required
  • Prior experience in partial hospitalization/day treatment setting for clients experiencing severe/chronic psychiatric illness
  • Prior experience working with individuals with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders preferred
