POSITION: REGISTERED BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN (RBT)
RESPONSIBLE TO: District BCBA, Building Administration, Special Education Coordinator, and Director of Special Education

JOB GOAL: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, administration, and other support staff to implement behavior intervention plans and other support plans for students that require consistent behavioral support during the school day. The RBT works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Special Education district leadership. The RBT will meet all requirements of the BACB and will utilize this supplement under the direction of the supervising BCBA. This is not an instructional support position, although RBT may provide some instructional support to students as needed. The RBT monitors and collects data on behavior and documents progress and collaborates with school staff to implement behavior interventions. The RBT helps students develop appropriate social, communication, and learning skills in the school setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
- Experience working in a school setting preferred
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and positive in challenging situations
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with district staff, building leadership, teachers, support staff, and BCBA
- Assist with managing challenging behaviors using approved strategies
- Support students in classrooms, therapy sessions, or other school environments
- Work 1:1 or in small groups with students to implement behavior support strategies
- Understand and apply the basic principles of ABA in classroom settings as directed.
- Assess student needs and provide interventions to redirect behavior or increase desired behavior through positive behavior practices.
- Collect and submit data for Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and/or Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), Individual Crisis Management Plans (ICMP), Individualized Education Data (IEP) data, and related student documentation.
- Regularly review and remain well-versed in multitude of BIPs in order to implement the plans and monitor plans for multiple students.
- Assist in development of reinforcement identification procedures.
- Model implementation of BIPs and/or crisis plans for paraprofessionals and staff.
- When required, provide physical intervention for students demonstrating unsafe behavior in accordance with Crisis Intervention and Prevention (CPI) Strategies and required documentation.
- Participates in yearly renewal of RBT licensure, special education training requirements, and CPI training.
- RBT may serve as a member of the school crisis response team.
- Attend group supervision monthly at the discretion of the supervising BCBA.
- Maintain consistency of BIPs by communicating and providing input to teachers and other support staff.
- Adherence to RBT Handbook and Ethics as outlined by the BACB.
- Additional related tasks as assigned.
- Ability to work as a member of a cohesive and collaborative team.
- Ability to understand and learn student needs and maintain student dignity, confidentiality, and student rights.
- Ability to lead/model behavior support strategies for others.
- Maintain security and confidentiality as specified records and information.
- Ability to take and respond to feedback and direction of superiors.
- Ability to follow and practice policies related to proper procedures as outlined in the special education handbook, CPI licensure, RBT handbook, and maintains RBT Ethics.
- Ability to multitask and record data for BIP or other support documentation.
- Must be flexible, creative, solution oriented, and creative in approaching working with both students and staff.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm to learn and receive feedback with all related professionals.
- Must maintain a copy of their RBT supervision records as outlined in the BACB.
- Detail oriented and strong communication skills.
- Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to endure potentially stressful conditions. All other requirements by employment through Licking Heights Local Schools.
