About Job

Help Your North Hawai‘i Community Thrive!

North Hawaii Hospice provides compassionate care, dignity, and support to individuals and families facing end-of-life journeys. Rooted in aloha and community, we offer personalized in-home hospice and palliative care that honors each life with deep respect.

As we continue to grow and deepen our impact, we are seeking a mission-driven Development & Outreach Director to help sustain and expand our services across North Hawai‘i. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who knows and loves our local community—and wants to give back in a meaningful way.

Position Summary

The Development & Outreach Director will lead the strategy and execution of all development and outreach efforts, ensuring North Hawaii Hospice remains strong, visible, and well-supported.

This is a key leadership role for someone who can connect with hearts, tell compelling stories, and inspire giving. We’re looking for a relationship-builder with deep ties to North Hawai‘i—or a strong understanding or willingness to learn about its people, culture, and values.

Key Responsibilities

Fund Development & Donor Engagement

  • Lead fundraising strategy across major gifts, planned giving, events, and corporate partnerships.
  • Cultivate lasting relationships with donors, foundations, and local partners.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to nurture a strong culture of philanthropy.

Community Outreach & Census Growth

  • Build partnerships with healthcare providers, civic groups, churches, and schools to grow awareness and referrals.
  • Represent NHH at fairs, events, and public forums to connect with our wider community.
  • Design outreach plans to drive census growth and deepen community trust.

Grants & Sponsorships

  • Research, apply for, and manage grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Ensure grant reporting and compliance are timely and thoughtful.

Communications & Events

  • Manage donor and community communications, including newsletters, social media, and impact stories.
  • Coordinate meaningful fundraising events and donor appreciation gatherings.
  • Ensure messaging aligns with our values and mission of compassionate care.

Data & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate donor records and generate reports to guide development strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or related field—or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of successful experience in fundraising, grant writing, and donor cultivation (healthcare or human services a plus).
  • Proven ability to secure individual and institutional funding.
  • Exceptional communication skills—able to tell our story with heart.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Familiarity with donor databases (e.g., Bloomerang) is a bonus.
  • Deep connection to or understanding of North Hawai‘i communities or willingness to learn.
  • Passion for compassionate care and alignment with the mission of hospice.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Commensurate with experience
  • Benefits: Paid time off, potential for health benefits, and professional development opportunities.
  • Flexibility: Primarily remote with presence at key events, meetings, and some office work.
  • Impact: Join a small but mighty team making a profound difference in lives across North Hawai‘i.
