About Job

The Communications & Events Specialist plays a dynamic role in shaping Horning’s internal communications, employee engagement initiatives, and company events. This individual will also provide essential administrative support to the executive team and act as a key backup for the Office and Technology Manager when needed.

The role partners closely with Human Resources and senior leaders to drive engagement, ensure operational efficiency, and strengthen company culture through clear, thoughtful communication and well-executed events. 

 

Duties: 

 

Events Planning 

  • Coordinate and execute internal events such as the Annual Core Values Conference, employee appreciation activities, holiday celebrations, and team-building experiences
  • Oversee event logistics including venue coordination, vendor management, budget tracking, and post-event evaluations
  • Maintain a master calendar of all internal events and collaborate with internal stakeholders on planning timelines and expectations
  • Ensure events align with company values, brand, and culture
  • Track event effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvement.

Communications 

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans that support the company’s initiatives and goals.
  • Create content for internal and external platforms, including newsletters, presentations, digital signage, and social media.
  • Maintain and update content across internal platforms (e.g., company website, intranet, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Design branded templates and resources for consistent internal communications.

Employee Engagement and Experience 

  • Partner with HR to support the new hire experience and employee engagement efforts.
  • Assist with onboarding materials, welcome communications, and internal HR campaigns.
  • Draft and distribute communications related to HR programs such as benefits, policy changes, wellness initiatives, training, and surveys.
  • Support the development of visual materials for employee-facing presentations and campaigns.

Administrative & Executive Support 

  • Provide light administrative support to the CEO, including meeting coordination, calendar management, and travel arrangements.
  • Partner with the Office and Technology Manager to ensure smooth coordination of administrative tasks and shared office responsibilities
  • Support cross-departmental initiatives and leadership communications as needed

Other Duties:  

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in communications, event planning, or administrative support roles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with design and communications tools such as Canva and Microsoft Forms
  • Friendly, proactive, and resourceful approach to work. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgement. 

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Experience supporting senior leaders or working in internal communications or HR. 
  • Background in planning and executing company events or employee engagement programs.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, Teams, intranet tools, or survey platforms (e.g., SurveyMonkey, Microsoft Forms). 
  • Ability to create visual content and presentations using branded templates.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Travel Requirements:  

This role is based in the corporate office with a standard in-office schedule. Occasional local travel may be required for event setup and coordination. Reliable transportation is required.
