About Job

Job Summary: Peacox Helping Hands Inc is seeking an individual to provide peer support services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to persons experiencing mental illness, substance abuse problems, or to those in recovery. Service provision will focus on working with individuals with lived experience to enhance their recovery. Service is provided to individuals or groups.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Certification with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services is required. The certified youth peer support specialist will be selected based on experience and the ability to communicate well with others. The specialist is expected to be a self-starter, work well in a team setting, and have the ability to adapt to a diverse working environment. The candidate must possess an awareness of the importance of recovery as an individual with lived experience, have a history of managing overall wellness, must have experience working with individuals in recovery. In addition, the certified youth peer support specialist must have the following:

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Ability to maintain confidentiality

· Ability to work well with others

· Ability to be empathetic to youth, adults, and families

Job Duties:

· To provide individualized, ongoing guidance, coaching and support.

· To provide training in the use of personal and community resources.

· Assist in developing formal and informal community supports.

· Assist the person served in increasing social support networks of relatives, friends and/or significant others

· To work in cooperation with other providers, family members or significant others involved in the client’s recovery plan.

· To offer encouragement in times of crisis.

· To advocate on behalf of persons with behavioral health problems to protect the client’s rights and to assist in reducing associated stigma.

· To observe all rules of confidentiality both internally and when dealing with external agencies and/or individuals.

· To perform other related duties as assigned.
