We’re Hiring: Workforce Development Career Counselor
About the Role
As a Career Counselor, you'll manage a caseload of approximately 100 participants, guiding them through job readiness, training, placement, and retention. You'll play a critical role in improving the economic stability of individuals facing employment challenges due to mental health, substance abuse recovery, homelessness, or other systemic barriers.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Support participants through all phases of Workforce Opportunities (WfO) services
✅ Conduct assessments and develop individualized service plans
✅ Maintain regular outreach (biweekly minimum) and document progress
✅ Connect clients to HSE, ESOL, training, and higher education opportunities
✅ Assist with resume development, mock interviews, and job readiness portfolios
✅ Collaborate with Employment Specialists to respond to job leads and refer clients
✅ Conduct independent job search assistance and employer referrals
✅ Provide job retention and re-placement support for up to 2 years post-employment
✅ Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in AWARDS and report progress/outcomes
✅ Serve clients across up to two sites as needed
Qualifications
???? Bachelor’s degree required
???? 2+ years in workforce development, case management, or related services
???? Willingness and ability to travel throughout the five boroughs
???? Experience with mental health/substance abuse recovery and/or homelessness preferred
???? Experience supporting individuals with disabilities or complex barriers to employment
???? Strong computer literacy and communication skills
???? Familiarity with the AWARDS system is a plus
???? Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to service delivery
???? Proven ability to help job seekers secure and retain employment
