The Division of Health Psychology at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is pleased to announce a position opening for a full-time psychologist in Hartford Healthcare’s Digestive Health Center in Bloomfield, Connecticut. The Digestive Health Center offers coordinated care with the expertise of gastroenterology and surgical specialists along with an expanded GI endoscopy unit offering a single site of service for patients with complex digestive health disorders. With a focus on multidisciplinary, team-based care the Digestive Health Center offers a holistic approach to the management of this unique patient population with the integration of nurse navigation, nutrition services and clinical health psychology.
Job Summary
This is a very collaborative position, closely connected to the interdisciplinary Digestive Health treatment team, who work together to treat to adults living with a wide variety of acute and chronic gastrointestinal diseases such as IBD, celiac disease, disorders of functional motility, fatty liver disease as well as disorders of weight and obesity. The psychologist is considered an integral part of the Digestive Health Center, maintaining an office in the clinic, and regularly attending Digestive Health clinical council meetings, as well as Health Psychology department meetings and journal clubs. Additionally, the psychologist will interface with other behavioral health specialists within and outside the Hartford Healthcare Behavioral Health Network, including psychiatrists and licensed clinical social workers, and will work to maintain and enhance a behavioral health service line within Digestive Health. Opportunities for research and training of psychology trainees also exist and are an integral part of the psychologist’s role.
A synopsis of duties includes:
- Providing behavioral health services to adults, including diagnostic assessment and evaluation of treatment needs of medical patients, collaboration and consultation with medical providers, brief and evidence-based treatments for behavioral and mental health issues,
- Effective utilization of screening measures and assessment tools,
- Data management including tracking symptoms and treatment outcomes,
- Participating in program development,
- Developing and implementing psychoeducational materials for use in the medical setting,
- Participating in team meetings, outreach and communication with outside providers,
- Independent maintenance of treatment records.
Qualifications
- Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD.) or Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from an APA-accredited institution
- One year APA approved internship in Clinical Psychology
- Licensed to practice Psychology in the State of Connecticut
- Training and/or experience in clinical health psychology
- Experience in the area of GI health or related medical populations a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-directed and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Spanish language proficiency a plus
