SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under general direction of the Assistant Directors of Special Education or the Building Administrator, a social worker provides services that enable special education students whose behavior, with respect to frequency, intensity, and duration over time, significantly impacts their educational success and/or that of others. This position also works in conjunction with the students' school team to assist the students in benefiting from specially designed programs and an overall educational experience/process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide direct clinical services to students that require mental health services as outlined in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs),
- Function as an integral member of the Pre-Referral Team, Individual Education Program (IEP) team and/or Student Intervention Team (SIT),
- Collaborate on the design and implementation of systems level interventions to address programmatic needs for target student populations,
- Conduct assessments with key stakeholders including community, parents/caregivers, students and school personnel to determine programmatic needs for target special education programs,
- Work individually with students with IEPs on specific goals and objectives that include, but are not limited to, social skills, anger management, self-control, problem solving, peer/adult relations, and interactions,
- Facilitate structured support groups for IEP students at the professional discretion of the Social Worker. Possible topics for groups may include, but are not limited to emotional regulation, stress tolerance, adapting to change, mindfulness strategies, values-based decision making and building resilience,
- Document and interpret characteristics, needs and progress of students with IEPs to parents/caregivers and school personnel, in group or individual setting via oral of written communications (i.e., progress reports).
- Synthesize information gained from key stakeholders including parents/caregivers, teachers, administrators, school personnel and community service members into actionable items that contribute to social/emotional and behavioral development of students with IEPs,
- Assist teachers, administrators, and school personnel in integrating specialized information into the general education curriculum (i.e., developing and implementing goals and objectives, consistent with individual student's specially designed instruction),
- Organize, prepare and/or administer behavioral assessment tools and procedures on students who may be referred for special education services due to on-going behavioral concerns throughout the school setting,
- Maintains sufficient records of cases for use by school staff, parents, and outside agencies when appropriate (i.e., progress reports, IEPs, and/or end of the year summaries),
- Write end of year summary on IEP students that reflect overall progress as it related to student's IEP goals and objectives,
- Serve as liaison between school, parents, and outside community agencies to coordinate services for students with IEPs,
- Participate and provide information relevant to IEP team decision making regarding student special education placement and staffing,
- Provide and/or participate in staff development or in-service training programs,
- Consult with teachers, administrators, school personnel, and parents concerning the development, coordination, and/or extension of services to those students needing specialized programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certification (ESA) with a Social Worker endorsement,
- Master's degree in social work,
- Must hold and maintain active Washington State licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW),
- Previous work experience working with children in school settings,
- Knowledge of local health regulations and educational policies,
- Finger printing and background check.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in providing counseling services to children and adolescents,
- Proficiency in rendering evidence-based services for children and adolescents with significant behavioral and social/emotional needs,
- Knowledge of and ability to use community resources regarding non-school issues affecting student's progress,
- Proficiency in rendering trauma-informed clinical mental health services to children and adolescents,
- Communicates reliably and effectively with students, parents/caregivers, staff, community partners and volunteers in a diverse environment,
- Ability to provide leadership for building activities and to adjust to new situations and guidance concepts,
- Ability to relate effectively with children, families, community members, and staff of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds,
- Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team,
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information,
- Ability to exercise sound decision making skills,
- Ability to initiate and maintain required and adequate student and office records,
- Ability to facilitate the educational development of students,
- Ability to lift 20 pounds and push/pull 40 pounds.
Certification and Licenses
- Washington State ESA Certificate in Social Work
- Washington State Licensure in Clinical Social Work
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed a regular elementary or secondary school building. Exposure to normal amounts of dust and fumes from office machines and occasional loud noises. Ability to use arms, hands and fingers; lift 20 pounds and push/pull 40 pounds; and to sit for prolonged periods of time are all required. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons. Must be able to talk and use fingers, hands, and arms and to listen carefully and focus while filtering out normal office noise. May involve negotiating steps, ramps, uneven surfaces, and going outdoors in all types of weather to reach some classrooms or other buildings. Tolerance of occasional loud noises and ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time are required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employee's responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

*Clover Park School District total possible pay consists of base salary plus the following:
Building Centered Responsibility - 5 days
District Centered Responsibility - 2.5 days
Event Responsibility - 1 day
Attendance required for compensation of responsibility pay (building-centered, district-centered, and event).
