Principal Responsibilities:

Each Club J Afterschool Counselor/Mentor will report to work on all school calendar days from 2:00-6:00 M-Th and 12:00-6:00 F, for a total of 22hrs/week. Club J Counselors could drive vans to pick up children from area schools and bring them to the JCC. Club J Counselors will serve as role models while they supervise and mentor children between the ages of 5 and 12, and are responsible for planning and executing daily, age-appropriate activities. Club J Counselors work as part of a team to support JCC children and families, and report to the Youth & Teen Director. Must be 18 or older to apply.

Job Responsibilities
- Sign children in and keep an active count of how many children are in your group at any time;
- Keep all children within sight or, if they are using the bathroom, sound;
- Serve snack in a sanitary manner after checking allergen list and return uneaten items to their correct location;
- Work cooperatively with co-counselors and admin;
- Prepare activities for children to engage in, turning lesson plans and supply requests in to the office two weeks in advance;
- Actively supervise children and engage with them in a screen-free environment;
- Maintain clean spaces and vehicles for the program by collecting items for lost and found, throwing away garbage, and scheduling in time for the children in the program to tidy up;
- Report issues with broken furniture, vehicle components, and structures to office admin in a timely manner;
- Use positive guidance for behavior management of children in the program, maintaining a safe and kind environment for all;
- Seek admin support for behaviors of campers that are unsafe or unresponsive to positive guidance;
- Attend weekly staff meetings on Friday at 12pm as well as any other required training; and
- Perform other related duties as needed.
