Job Summary
School Counselors will work with students with disabilities to provide counseling services at Council Bluffs, IA develop individualized education plans (IEPs), and coordinate support services to promote academic and personal success. The Counselor will work collaboratively with other educators, parents, and community agencies to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Key responsibilities-
- Provide individual and group counseling services to students with disabilities, including emotional and behavioral support, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement strategies to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with disabilities.
- Coordinate support services for students with disabilities, including accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counseling services and support services provided to students with disabilities.
- Provide training and professional development to school staff and parents on disability-related topics.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of counseling services, IEPs, and support services provided to students with disabilities.
- Attend IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other meetings related to the education and support of students with disabilities.
- Stay up-to-date with federal and state regulations related to special education and counseling services.
Qualification-
- Master's degree in counseling or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid Virginia Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential with Specialization in School Counseling.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to special education and counseling services.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other educators, parents, and community agencies.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for students with disabilities
