District Social Worker Supervisor

The Pawtucket School Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as the District Social Worker Supervisor. Under the direction of the Superintendents designed or the Director of Social Emotional Learning, this individual will oversee all district social work staff and programs. This role provides critical leadership, guidance, and coordination to ensure that school-based and district-wide social work services are aligned with best practices and support the academic, emotional, and social well-being of all students.
The Supervisor will help shape systems of care, lead professional development, coordinate with internal and external partners, and ensure high-quality supports are accessible and equitably distributed across all schools. The Supervisor will also play an essential role in identifying resources and ensuring social work efforts are student-centered, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and aligned with the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation of all school social workers across the district.
- Coordinate the delivery of social work services to ensure consistent practices aligned with district priorities and student needs.
- Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing professional learning for social workers.
- Facilitate regular team meetings, case conferences, and professional development focused on best practices in school-based mental health.
- Collaborate with administrators, school staff, and central office departments to support students in crisis and ensure coordinated interventions.
- Oversee development and implementation of data-informed service plans and intervention strategies.
- Align the work of social workers with other departments including Special Education, Student Services, SEL, MTSS, and Health Services.
- Serve as liaison with community-based agencies, city services, and other external stakeholders providing wraparound services.
- Support the implementation of the district’s SEL and mental health framework through a social work lens.
- Develop and manage social work-related documentation systems, protocols, and resource distribution.
- Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to student welfare and service delivery.
- Assist with budget planning, materials selection, and resource acquisition for social work programming.
- Conduct school visits, provide coaching, and ensure equitable access to support across all school communities.
- Represent the district in regional networks, conferences, and interagency collaboration efforts as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
- Valid Rhode Island Department of Education certification as a School Social Worker.
- Minimum of five years of successful experience as a school social worker, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
- Extensive knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practices, and school-based mental health frameworks.
- Strong organizational and team leadership skills.
- Ability to build trust and collaborate across diverse school communities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in coaching or mentoring professional staff.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel between school sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supervising school-based mental health professionals.
- Familiarity with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and SEL frameworks.
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
- Prior experience coordinating professional development or leading districtwide initiatives.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
