MACHINE INSERTION AND BINDERY SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Overview:
This dual-role position combines responsibilities in both Machine Insertion and Bindery operations. As a Machine Insertion and Bindery Specialist, the individual is responsible for setting up, operating, and accurately inserting materials using mail inserter equipment. The role also includes general and preventative maintenance of insertion and bindery machines to keep equipment running efficiently. Daily maintenance tasks are performed under the guidance of the Team Lead.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience as a machine insertion operator, bindery operator, or similar role in a production or print environment.
- Hands-on experience with setting up, troubleshooting, and maintaining insertion or bindery machinery.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance schedules and keeping equipment clean and well-adjusted for optimal performance.
- Ability to read and follow job tickets and work orders with attention to detail.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production setting.
The Bindery portion of the role includes preparing paper for digital printing, cutting printed materials to final size, and performing finishing tasks such as applying labels or Post-it notes, as well as scoring and perforating materials. Cross-training in other production departments is encouraged to support overall workflow efficiency and team versatility.
Applicants with machine insertion operator experience are encouraged to apply. Experience in machine setup and maintenance is highly valued and may qualify candidates for the higher end of the pay range.
- Set up and operate machine inserters, cutters, bindery equipment, and other production machinery as directed by the Team Lead.
- Obtain first article sign-off approval prior to proceeding with any process, including machine inserting, folding, cutting, scoring, label placement, etc.
- Ensure quality control during job setup, including material verification and package accuracy.
- Perform routine, general, and preventative maintenance, and make basic adjustments on equipment and machinery to maintain consistent performance.
- Identify and correct minor variances to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Maintain proper sequencing and organization of materials throughout the production process.
- Collaborate closely with the Team Lead to achieve daily production goals.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work overtime when required.
- Comply with all Pioneer Direct Marketing policies and procedures.
- Assist in other departments as needed to maintain overall workflow and production efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; 1+ years of work-related experience in mailing, production, or a related field preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, especially in machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, collaborative team-oriented mindset.
- Proactive, accountable, and able to demonstrate a sense of urgency in daily tasks.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions:
- Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, carry, speak/articulate, hear, and lift up to 50 lbs.; occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift may be required on a limited basis.
- May require driving a motor vehicle.
- Frequent use of manual dexterity—hand/finger coordination, grasping, reaching, and color vision.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (At times Overtime may be needed to meet production demands.)
Compensation details: 16-20 Hourly Wage
