Reporting to the Assistant/Associate Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor plays a key role in McDaniel College's recruitment and enrollment efforts. The position requires the ability to travel extensively, work independently, and engage effectively with students, families, and high school personnel to assist in finding an acceptable fit between educational goals and financial constraints. The Counselor must understand and communicate the value of a liberal arts education, align with the College's Strategic Plan, and contribute meaningfully to the execution of recruitment strategies. The position requires significant travel and the ability to set goals, manage time, and achieve results within an assigned area requiring minimal supervision. Since a major aspect of this position entails attending and handling off-campus recruitment activities, the Admission Counselor must value working independently with students, families, high school personnel, and colleagues from other colleges. An appreciation for diversity and effective verbal and written communication skills are required. The Admission Counselor must quickly build a professional base of higher education and admissions knowledge and network. Information gained from regional and national colleagues assists in achieving both individual and institutional goals.

The position is highly seasonal in nature. Key responsibilities vary throughout the year and associated activities require different skills.

Fall: Significant travel for high school visits, college fairs, and off-site events and active participation in daytime, evening and weekend on-campus programs. Weekly personalized outreach to maximize campus visitors, inquiry cultivation, application submission, and completion; application review, recommended decisions, yield planning and execution.

Winter & Spring: Travel on a limited basis depending on territory as well as active participation in daytime, evening and weekend on-campus programs. Continued weekly personalized outreach to students throughout the admission funnel, with intensive focus on executing student-specific strategies to maximize enrollment within assigned territory.

The Admissions Counselor will serve as the Counselor on Duty on a rotating basis (Monday through Saturday during the academic year and Monday through Friday during the summer months). On these assigned days, the Admissions Counselor greets visitors, leads the information session, responds to counselor-specific inquiries, and works side-by-side with the Visit Team to ensure an impactful on-campus experience.

Upon successful completion of the probationary period and demonstrated ability to manage core responsibilities effectively, the position may include the option for one remote workday per week, contingent on office coverage and staffing needs.
