As a School Social Worker, youll play a vital role in the academic, emotional, and social success of students. You will collaborate with teachers, counselors, and families to address barriers that interfere with student performance, while providing direct intervention services to students in need. Your responsibilities may include creating behavior support plans, conducting home visits, participating in IEP or 504 meetings, and working closely with community agencies to bridge gaps in resources. Your impact will be felt not only in the classroom, but in the broader school environment and community.
To qualify for a School Social Worker position in Virginia, candidates must hold a Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program and be licensed by the Virginia Board of Social Work. School-based professionals must also possess or be eligible for a Pupil Personnel Services License (PPSL) with a School Social Worker endorsement, as required by the Virginia Department of Education. Strong candidates will have experience working with children and adolescents in school or clinical settings and be prepared to support a diverse population of learners.
