Job Purpose:
The Counselor provides compassionate, strengths-based counseling services to women who have currently and or previously experienced homelessness and lived in a shelter environment. This role supports women as they transition into stable housing and navigate personal, relational, and emotional growth. The counselor offers individual, and group sessions focused on healing, empowerment, and long-term stability.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual, trauma-informed counseling sessions to women currently in a Maggie's Place home as well as post-shelter transition
- Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups focused on topics such as healing from trauma, parenting, relationships, stress management, sobriety, and self-worth
- Support clients in developing and achieving individualized wellness and recovery goals
- Coordinate with case managers, stability specialists, and other support staff to ensure holistic care
- Offer crisis intervention and safety planning when needed
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with legal and ethical standards
- Conduct regular follow-ups with clients to monitor progress and adapt support as needed
- Advocate for clients and assist with referrals to community mental health, medical, and employment resources
- Participate in clinical supervision, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development
- Promote welcoming, nonjudgmental, and culturally sensitive counseling
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field
- Licensed or license-eligible (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, etc.); supervision can be provided if applicable
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with women impacted by trauma, homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse, or related challenges
- Deep understanding of trauma-informed care
- Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to dignity, respect, and client-centered practice
- Experience facilitating support groups is a plus (virtuallyin-person)
- Bilingual abilities are highly valued
- Must be comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and to take initiative.
- Strong attention to detail and effective organizational, problem-solving, time-management and analytical skills.
- Data driven with strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Must be able to represent/reflect Maggie's Place in a positive and professional manner to all avenues of the community.
- Strong positive interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a friendly and professional demeanor.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess or have regular access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver license and active auto insurance.
- Must be able to comply and meet the national and state criminal background check, national sex offender registry, level one fingerprint clearance card, and a Motor Vehicle Records check as required by Maggie's Place.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. is required.
