POSITION GOAL: To provide psychological services to students and to assist school personnel in designing and planning appropriate educational programs to facilitate the learning and overall adjustment of student.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

The Intern School Psychologist (Non-doctoral) shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.

  • Evaluate students referred for psychological services in a manner consistent with district, state and federal laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide consultative services to school personnel regarding interventions, programs, educational, and psychological needs of students.
  • Interpret psychological diagnoses to parents, school personnel, and to other professionals.
  • Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations.
  • Conduct and participate in Inservice Training Programs under the direction of the Director, Psychological Services/504 and the Area Coordinator, Psychological Services.
  • Participate in Eligibility/Individual Educational Program and Placement Committee meetings in consultation with a certified school psychologist.
  • Participate in periodic reviews and reevaluations of students in Exceptional Student Programs.
  • Assume responsibility for following procedures established for the Psychological Services Department.
  • Advise the Director of any complaints or problems regarding Psychological Services.
  • In accordance with the State-adopted Student Services Act, conduct, when appropriate, individual and group counseling activities with students for the purpose of facilitating personal, social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • At the principal's request be involved in other activities within the school where his/her expertise as a psychologist would be of value - e.g., parent education groups, staff development meetings, speeches to P.T.A. and service groups, etc., for the purpose of interpreting services or programs available within the school, etc.
  • Become familiar with programs, facilities, and service available to students within the Broward County Schools and the community.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Enrolled in a master's or specialist degree training program in School Psychology.
  • Successful completion of all post bachelor's degree coursework including practicum experiences.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board. EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.
