Job Summary


This position will serve as a non-clinical student care case manager to students with at-risk mental health and social support needs through interventions, referrals, and connections to follow-up services to Middle Georgia State University students.

Responsibilities


Student Advocacy (50%) -
Works to individually address the needs of students who struggle with concerns that may prevent academic progression and/or success such as mental health and wellness, housing or food insecurity, through direct outreach and follow-up with students and referrals to campus and community resources.
Pre-screen and collect appropriate documentation related to student requests for the Student Emergency Access to Learning (SEAL) fund.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the MGA Food Pantry (Knights¿ Table) to include scheduling and promoting campus food drives.
Evaluate the risk of students referred to the Assessment and Care Team (ACT) and conduct formal Threat Assessments when necessary.
Serves as an additional Point of Contact (POC) for Embark Georgia, the statewide program to increase college access and retention for youth who have experienced foster care, homelessness, or housing insecurity.
Verify and notify appropriate faculty/staff related to students¿ excessive absence (typically, a week or longer) due to illness, accident, or family crisis.
Assist with the verification and notification of the campus community regarding the death of former or current students; provide support and guidance to surviving family members as needed or requested.

Campus and Community Duties (30%) -
Serves as a member of ACT (behavioral response team), reviewing and addressing a range of possible student concerns (i.e. mental health, behavioral threat), and assisting with the admission reviews of applications with felony convictions; assists with the maintenance of records related to ACT or student care referrals.
Communicate regularly with faculty and staff who express or report ACT- or student care concerns related to students.
Maintains awareness of best practices related to behavioral intervention teams and university case management programs.
Travels to each MGA campus as needed to promote programs/resources and meet with students.
May participate in Student Orientation sessions.

Administrative Duties (20%) -
Provides input into policy and procedure development and compliance related to student advocacy.
Maintains detailed records on assessments, outcomes and communication related to ACT and student care referrals and student advocacy issues.
Identifies as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in social work, student services, higher education administration or related field, is required.

Other Required Qualifications
Must have effective and proven problem-solving skills and abilities to work with a range of student populations.
Must have strong verbal and written communications skills, strong analytical skills, incident investigation and interviewing stills, strong time management skills, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to multitask effectively.

Required Experience
Minimum one to two years related experience in a higher education environment, working with various campus resources (counseling and accessibility services, health clinics, financial aid, academic advising, residence life, admissions, registrar's office, etc.)
Minimum of one to two years related experience collaborating with community services agencies/resources.
Demonstrated experience and success working with underrepresented student populations including, but not limited to first generation and low-income students, and students who have experienced foster care, homelessness, or housing insecurity.
Must have knowledge and experience of case management techniques and software (i.e. Maxient).

Knowledge of related federal policies, procedures, regulations and laws.

Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
