The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. Position Summary: Uses holistic approach in provision of medical social services to YKDRH patients and their families to assist in solving or ameliorating physical, social, emotional, and/or environmental problems which retard or prevent patients from attaining or retaining optimum health. Social services are provided to people of all ages, from intra-uterine through elderly.

Position Qualifications

  • MSW (Master of Social Work) from an accredited school of Social Work
  • One (1) year experience in hospital or health-care setting.
  • State of Alaska license at Master’s level (LMSW) required or eligibility.
  • Valid Alaska State driver’s license is required.
  • Basic knowledge of computer use.
  • Prefer experience working in cross-cultural setting with bilingual language skills in English & Yup'ik.
  • Ability to read, comprehend & write at the college level & effectively present information in one-on-one & group situations to patients/clients, agencies, communities, & other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply/divide in all units of measure, with whole numbers, common fractions, & decimals; compute rate, ratio, percent; draw/interpret bar graphs.
  • Should be able to perform supervisory tasks when supervisor is away, work independently and in collaboration with other social worker.
