How you make a difference

As a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor, the primary responsibility is to evaluate, treat, and provide support for individuals on their recovery journey from substance use disorders. By actively participating as an interdisciplinary team member, the SUD Counselor contributes to fostering positive clinical outcomes for individuals seeking recovery. Additionally, the counselor plays a vital role in preparing individuals for discharge and ensuring continuity of care to promote a seamless transition in their recovery process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer screening and assessment tools, utilizing certification/licensure to diagnose substance use disorders within the scope of practice.
  • Contribute to treatment plans and actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, collaborating closely with healthcare professionals to evaluate and treat patients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD).
  • Deliver group and individual services for individuals with substance use disorders, ensuring thorough, accurate, and timely documentation while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA requirements.
  • Collect and analyze data related to provided services, assisting in report preparation as necessary for contracts, grants, and accreditation.
  • Plan for the continuity of care upon the individual's release from the facility, providing crisis response and intervention services, and fulfilling other assigned duties.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • High School diploma and certification required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health services field is preferred.

Experience

  • Experience providing SUD counseling required.
  • Ability to practice independently preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensure or certification or license/certification eligible as required by state in which employed
