Job Title: School Counselor (K–8)

Reports To: School Principal / Executive Director

Classification: Full-Time | Exempt

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and aligned with Arizona charter school

guidelines

Position Summary:

The School Counselor at Imagine Bell Canyon provides comprehensive support services to

K–8 students in the areas of academic achievement, social-emotional development, and

college/career awareness. The counselor works collaboratively with teachers, school

leadership, families, and community partners to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive

learning environment. This position plays a vital role in promoting student well-being

and guiding students in developing the skills they need to succeed in school and

beyond.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Academic Development

  • Collaborate with teachers to identify and support students with academic challenges.
  • Assist in developing academic intervention plans and monitor student progress.
  • Support the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Student Support Teams (SST).

Social-Emotional Support

  • Provide individual and small group counseling for students experiencing emotional, social, or behavioral difficulties.
  • Lead classroom lessons on topics such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, and social skills.
  • Support students in crisis and refer families to community mental health resources when appropriate.

Behavioral & Climate Support

  • Promote positive behavior support strategies and character education aligned with school values.
  • Assist in managing behavior intervention plans and provide support for students with behavioral needs.
  • Participate in campus-wide efforts to build a positive school climate and culture.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Serve as a liaison between school and home to support student success.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, needs, and available resources.
  • Organize parent education events and collaborate with community agencies for wrap around support.

Program Administration & Compliance

  • Maintain student records in compliance with FERPA and Arizona Department of Education requirements.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a school-wide counseling program aligned to the ASCA National Model.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing training to stay current on best practices and state mandates.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field
  • Valid Arizona School Counselor Certificate (PreK–12) issued by the Arizona Department of Education
  • Fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • Demonstrated experience working with elementary and/or middle school students

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a charter or public school setting
  • Knowledge of Arizona MTSS frameworks, SEL curriculum, and restorative practices
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other language)
