Position Summary:

Provision of Art Therapy (AT) services to inpatients, outpatients and their families in The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital. Art Therapist will be responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating art therapy interventions and in addressing the psychosocial and physiological needs of the oncology patient and their caregivers throughout the continuum of care. The AT will seek out opportunities to provide therapeutic interventions to patients, caregivers and families in 1:1 and group sessions. They must be open and enthusiastic to function as part of interdisciplinary teams within inpatient and outpatient settings. The Art Therapist will utilize evidenced-based practices and materials to administer therapies and will demonstrate competencies as an art therapist. The AT will identify targeted outcome measures to help patients achieve optimal quality of life results, reduce adverse stress responses, etc. The Art Therapist provides a variety of therapeutic experiences promoting a positive way to cope with illness. The Art Therapist is accomplished in the use of various medium to stimulate psychosocial process; adapts intervention to a variety of settings; individualizes interventions to meet specific needs of the patient. The Art Therapist will be responsible for special projects and key initiatives of Survivorship programs and services, particularly related to Art Therapy. The department typically operates 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, but evening and weekends may be required for execution of roles and responsibilities, particularly to onsite facilitation of groups, classes and outreach activities.


Position Scope:

Art Therapy services have the primary responsibility for providing outcome driven, evidence-based art therapy interventions to patients of the James Cancer Hospital. The AT also coordinates art programs within the inpatient and outpatient setting and coordinates the delivery of therapeutic interventions in the ambulatory and outpatient areas. The AT will serve as the key liaison with The Ohio State University College of Arts and Sciences and collaboratively provide art programming for The James. The AT provides collaborative program coordination of JamesCare for Life programs, services, educational events and community grant funded projects.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Master's degree in art therapy with board certification (ATR-BC) Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and adult instruction; strong program development and project management skills; demonstrated experience in research and evaluation; excellent written and oral communication skills required; sensitivity to and understanding of the continuous and supportive care needs of the patient/family with cancer.

On-going: Maintaining appropriate Ohio licensure requirements; ongoing advancement of knowledge related to program areas and expertise of delivery. Meet mandatory education and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions
