Position Title: Campus Counselor
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Assistant Head of School
Role Overview
The Museum District Campus (MDC) counselor serves students in grades 7-12 and supports the faculty in their work with students. The school counselor designs, implements, evaluates, and enhances comprehensive school counseling programs involving developmental, wellness, preventive, and responsive services. These services address academic and personal/social development of all Post Oak School middle and high school students.
The MDC counselor is a member of the school counseling team along with the Bissonnet Campus counselor, who serves the Early Childhood and Elementary programs.
The counseling program is designed to address the social, emotional, and developmental needs of students that arise within the community. The School Counselor may provide short-term counseling, informal mental health assessments and consultation, crisis management, ongoing support, and coaching, as well as referrals to community and mental health resources. The counselor works closely with the Middle School Director and High School Director to plan and coordinate services for the campus.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work is required as job duties demand.

The primary activities include:
- providing direct counseling services to students
- consultation with administration and faculty
- wellness and social emotional education for students, faculty, and parents
- serving as a liaison amongst the school, students, parents, and outside professionals in order to plan and implement strategies for success of the individual student.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop and maintains a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program
- Communicates the goals of the counseling program to constituents
- Partner with advisors, teachers, and division heads to determine needed support for students
- Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
- Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs
- Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
- Accurately and appropriately assess and determine the best needed structure for individual and group counseling services
- Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data from standardized tests and Psycho-Educational testing to support advisors and the admissions department.
Required Education and Experience
- A Master's degree or higher in counseling, social work, or other mental health related field and five to seven years of related experience.
- LPC, LCSW license
- Classroom or previous school experience

- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Proficiency using computers, printers, copy machines, and fax machines
