RSD Application Portal Job Title: Counselor Contract Days: 195 - 215 The counselor is directly supervised and evaluated by the building administration team. Qualifications of Employment: Possess the qualifications of a teacher and a guidance counselor as prescribed by the state Department of Education under the school laws of the state of Arkansas. Hold a master's degree, preferably with a major in school counseling. Have at least three years of successful teaching experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Function under policies established by the Board of Education. Be directly responsible to his/her building principal. Provide Direct/Indirect Counseling Services 90% of the time in accordance with ACT 190. Work closely with the principal and teachers in determining the social/emotional, academic and career development needs of the school/students. Work closely with the principal and teachers in determining the unique guidance needs and problems of the school. Collaborate with the principal regularly with the primary focus being the implementation of the comprehensive school counseling plan for their building. Collaborate and consult with teachers regarding student needs in social/emotional, academic and career development domains to improve student outcomes. Help to identify and to refer individual students needing services. Work in collaboration with the District Human Services worker and/or community partners to better support families. Maintain and respect confidentiality of students and school personnel information. Help teachers with activities that continue the development of good work habits among students in order to further develop a personally meaningful set of work values that foster in them a desire to work. Communicate with parents both at school and in the home in working through problems. Help with the scheduling and master schedule process. Participate as part of building committees, such as RTI, behavior, and any others as requested by the building principal. For secondary grades, counselors will schedule students correctly in courses needed, based on transcript and credits needed for graduation. Correctly advise students on courses, pathways, scholarships, and opportunities after high school. Help with graduation, award assemblies, and testing as requested. Help coordinate building events as requested by the principal. Follow all TESS rubric "proficient" level expectations for their role Liaison for community resources to support families Other duties as assigned. Recommended Skills
