Clinical Psychologist


The WPS Clinical Psychologist will report to the Director of Student Services and Building Principal(s), and assist in the goal of helping to oversee both the Assessment Center and GAIN (Therapeutic Program) at the Kennedy Middle School


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the therapeutic programming within the GAIN classrooms
  • Assist in developing the behavioral programming for the GAIN classrooms
  • Assist in implementation of social/emotional curriculum within the GAIN classroom
  • Parent consultation, collaboration with outside providers and home services, as needed
  • Create and maintain program manuals for the GAIN classrooms
  • Provide clinical supervision to GAIN classroom clinical staff
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, culturally responsive environment that is conducive to student’s learning and their ability to comfortably share their authentic selves.
  • Support students with social emotional learning disabilities and students that are in crisis and or exhibiting behavioral outbursts
  • Support students in maintaining safe behaviors across settings, including the use of blocking and reinforcement procedures as well as physical restraint, as needed.
  • Oversee paraprofessional staff in supporting students and in data collection and entry.
  • Assist staff in other buildings with student transitions; observe students as needed
  • Assist staff in other buildings to determine appropriateness of evaluation in the GAIN classroom.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to include Safety-Care training,and all other relevant trainings
  • Provide professional development opportunities to GAIN Program staff.
  • Administer and interpret formal and informal cognitive and other relevant evaluations required to determine eligibility for special services, as well as for ongoing reevaluations.
  • Provide written reports of assessment for student evaluations.
  • Collaborate with building staff
  • Participate as a member of the IEP team as well as other relevant school-based teams including crisis support, IST (Instructional Support Team- RTI/MTSS, etc.)
  • Assist in developing IEP goals and objectives as well as monitor and report on progress.
  • Provide supervision to group and individual lessons on social skills development as well as individual counseling sessions based on student needs and IEP goals/objectives.
  • Involvement and consultation around behavioral interventions and plans, in conjunction with district BCBA/ behavioral staff, social workers, as appropriate.
  • Participate in ongoing PD including maintaining knowledge of new intervention strategies and new assessments in the areas of instructional strategies, behavior management, behavioral intervention plans and emotional disabilities.
  • Conduct home visits as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Administration.

Qualifications and Skill Set:

  • Doctoral Degree from an approved program in clinical psychology.
  • Experience in a culturally diverse, public school setting
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of child development

Terms of Employment:


As outlined in the Agreement Between The Woburn Teachers’ Association and The Woburn School Committee. This position is 200 days.
