About Job
The Essex Westford School District (EWSD) is seeking a passionate and equity-driven Elementary School Counselor to join our team at our Thomas Fleming Elementary School in supporting the academic, social-emotional, and career development of our students. This is a vital, full-time position working across a 3-5 learning environment where you'll serve as a leader in building a supportive, inclusive, and student-centered school climate. Due to the timing of the posting, we are only able to issue a temporary one year contract, but we anticpate the position will continue beyond 2025-26.
As our School Counselor, you will:
Provide individual and small-group counseling on issues such as self-esteem, social skills, behavior, academics, and family dynamics.
Deliver engaging classroom instruction on social-emotional learning (SEL) topics including empathy, conflict resolution, and goal setting.
Support career awareness and planning at age-appropriate levels.
Offer crisis intervention and connect students to school and community-based resources.
Collaborate with educators, administrators, families, and outside agencies to ensure every student’s needs are met.
Participate in and contribute to 504 planning, IEP teams, RTI/MTSS systems, and student support teams (SSTs).
Coordinate school-wide initiatives in restorative practices, peer mediation, and positive school culture.
Promote inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices aligned with EWSD’s equity policy.

Be an advocate for equity and access for all students, especially those historically underserved.
Have strong counseling skills and the ability to support students through social, emotional, and academic challenges.
Demonstrate collaboration, cultural humility, and a commitment to trauma-informed education.
Thrive in a dynamic school environment that centers students' voices and identities.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in School Counseling or a related field (required)
Valid Vermont Agency of Education School Counselor license (or eligibility). EWSD is committed to considering out-of-state candidates who are eligible to hold a Vermont educator license but do not yet hold a license in this state.
Experience with K–8 students preferred
Familiarity with RTI/MTSS, SEL, and restorative practices strongly valued
