Kennel Attendants play a vital role in the daily care, health, and welfare of animals
housed at Lafeyette County Humane Shelter (LCHS). This position is responsible for
maintaining a safe, clean, and compassionate environment, while interacting with the
public and promoting adoptions and responsible pet ownership. Ideal candidates will be empathetic,
resilient, and thrive in fast-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect kennels, animal areas, and transport vehicles
- Feed, water, and groom animals according to individual care plans
- Observe animal behavior and report any signs of illness or distress
- Administer medications as directed by veterinary staff
- Assist with vaccinations, intake exams, and basic diagnostics
- Maintain accurate records using designated software
- Support lost pet reunifications and facilitate adoption processes
- Provide customer service including phone support and in-person inquiries
- Restock supplies, maintain inventory, and assist with light facility maintenance
- Transport animals to and from veterinary clinics, rescue partners, or events
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- One year of animal care or shelter experience preferred
- Comfort with all species and breeds of domestic animals
- Strong observational and communication skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
