Location: Multi site coverage.

Home base: Northern State Prison 168 Frontage Road Newark, New Jersey 07114

  • Must be willing to travel within the state of New Jersey. Reliable transportation is a must. Gateway will reimburse travel expenses.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday. Monday's 1PM to 9PM and Tuesday's through Friday's 8AM to 4:30PM

  • Day shift with varying hours during the day

Alcohol and Drug Counselors are responsible for:

  • Duties vary by location or site assigned.
  • Facilitating lectures; Presenting SUD education to groups of 15 or less incarcerated persons in the NJDOC.
  • Independent responsibility with multi site coverage, with the home base being Northern State Prison in Newark NJ.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel within the state of New Jersey. Reliable transportation is a must. Gateway will reimburse travel expenses.
  • CADC preferred.
  • Public speaking experience preferred.
  • 2 years of lived in experience required.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Must have at least six (6) months previous clinical experience in the substance abuse treatment field.
  • Must obtain NJDOC clearance
  • Experience in a corrections environment a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk and move about the facilities for up to two hours at a time, to monitor and interact with clients
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data
  • Ability to record, proofread and check documents and files for accuracy
  • Ability to respond to telephones, and to hear and detect alarms and unusual noises
