PATHWAYS - COUNSELOR
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Support Personnel Endorsement in Guidance
  • Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling
  • Experience as a teacher and/or school counselor preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to student growth in alternative education settings
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Pathways Counselor plays a critical role in supporting students within the Alternative Pathways Program by providing academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary counseling services. The counselor helps students develop into self-reliant, productive individuals by addressing a range of academic, personal, and career planning needs.
REPORTS TO: Pathways Principal
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Respond to and process student referrals in a timely and supportive manner.
  • Provide individualized counseling for academic planning, personal development, social-emotional issues, and career readiness.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with seniors to guide post-secondary and career planning.
  • Assist students with course selection and academic programming for fall and spring semesters.
  • Meet with new students and families to review schedules, program expectations, and school policies.
  • Provide ongoing communication about financial aid, scholarships, and college application processes to assigned students.
  • Guide juniors and their families through college readiness and testing information in the spring.
  • Assist students with college entrance exams and other relevant assessments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Pathways Principal.
