PATHWAYS - COUNSELOR
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Support Personnel Endorsement in Guidance
- Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling
- Experience as a teacher and/or school counselor preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to student growth in alternative education settings
The Pathways Counselor plays a critical role in supporting students within the Alternative Pathways Program by providing academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary counseling services. The counselor helps students develop into self-reliant, productive individuals by addressing a range of academic, personal, and career planning needs.
REPORTS TO: Pathways Principal
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Respond to and process student referrals in a timely and supportive manner.
- Provide individualized counseling for academic planning, personal development, social-emotional issues, and career readiness.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with seniors to guide post-secondary and career planning.
- Assist students with course selection and academic programming for fall and spring semesters.
- Meet with new students and families to review schedules, program expectations, and school policies.
- Provide ongoing communication about financial aid, scholarships, and college application processes to assigned students.
- Guide juniors and their families through college readiness and testing information in the spring.
- Assist students with college entrance exams and other relevant assessments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pathways Principal.
