Behavioral Health Counselor
Full Time / Exempt (Part Time Options)
Salary Range = $55,000 - $60,000/yr (Based on experience)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Senior Resources is seeking a skilled, fully licensed counselor to help provide support to older adults and people with disabilities in the community who have difficulty leaving their home to access services. Our goal is to help patients build coping mechanisms to guide them through stressful situations and manage their mental and emotional challenges.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to coordinate with support networks, government resources, and community resources that are also working with your patients. The successful candidate will also be friendly and professional, with outstanding people skills.
Counselor Responsibilities:
Assessing patients through detailed conversations, interviews, and observations to determine the appropriate testing or examination.
Diagnosing the patient's mental and emotional disorders.
Creating effective treatment plans that include counseling, medication, or other services.
Working with your patients and developing goals.
Discussing the treatment plan with your patient on a regular basis to identify faults or room for improvement.
Educating patients about appropriate coping mechanisms to help them through tough situations.
Recording the patient's progress and changing their treatment plan when needed.
Counselor Requirements:
Master's degree in social work or counseling including full licensure in the State of Michigan.
Superb verbal and written communication skills.
Aptitude to show empathy while maintaining healthy boundaries.
Good time management skills.
Proven experience in developing effective treatment plans.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Compliant with OSHA and State Board of Licensing.
Must be able to demonstrate computer skills, including use of e-mail and Microsoft office word and excel.
Must be able to demonstrate effective written communication skills including but not limited to writing reports and correspondence.
Must be able to demonstrate effective verbal communication skills, including but not limited to speaking effectively to members, providers, families, and staff and listening to members, providers and families.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and use time effectively and efficiently.
Demonstrated successful experience working in an environment of change. Effectively copes with change and uncertainty; responds and "shifts gears" comfortably.
Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of both external and internal customers, acts with customers in mind.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, and gain their trust and respect.
Uses logical methods to solve problems with effective solutions; looks beyond the obvious for solutions.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. * Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
* Must possess and maintain Social Work or Counseling License
* Must have and maintain CPR certification.
* Must have reliable transportation and provide current proof of automobile insurance.
* Must have a working cell phone.
* Must test for tuberculosis upon starting and review symptoms annually.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling and 2 years related experience. Plus have and maintain full licensure.
Baseline Clinical Knowledge
Minimum 2 years clinical experience as a Counselor in geriatric, adult or family practice setting
Proven ability to perform comprehensive, adult/geriatric cognitive assessment.
Demonstrated ability to identify, diagnose and document chronic mental health conditions in adults.
Demonstrated ability to recognize conditions, characteristics, and behaviors that place seniors at risk.
Proven ability to pursue feedback, continuing education, and professional development.
Ability to effectively make recommendations to physicians and nurse practitioner related to medication interventions for mental health conditions and diagnoses.
Demonstrated ability to identify and document the needs of clinically complex participants.
Pertinent Clinical Work Experience which is relevant to population being served.
