The University of Iowa’s Addiction and Recovery Collaborative (UI ARC) in the Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Behavioral Health Clinician to provide administrative oversight and case management services. The administrative component of this position will include the recruiting, onboarding, training, development, management, and ongoing supervision of assigned staff. The case management side if this position will be responsible for the delivery of behavioral health services on the addiction medicine consult service, the outpatient MAT clinics, and to clients enrolled in various service grants. The successful candidate will provide specialized practice skills in substance use disorders (SUDs), adolescent and adult individual SUD therapy, group therapy, consultation, and program development. As a Behavioral Health Clinician, you would both manage services assigned to grant enrollees by identifying client needs relative to housing, employment, education, clothing, etc., and facilitate providing those supports as well as follow these clients through the project – tracking and assessing their recovery and resource use based on funder requirements. You will collaborate with community non-profits and the department of corrections to facilitate care and support for our shared populations.
This position will be based at the University of Iowa Health Care Main Campus and is primarily 1st shift, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday. Hybrid work is an option.

Position Responsibilities
- Recruit, train and provide ongoing supervision for team staff. Participate in staff recruitment, interview, hiring, work assignments, and orientation and performance supervision according to work rules, regulations, and policies and collective bargaining agreements; develop and implement staff orientation and training.
- May oversee work assignments, supervise according to work rules, regulations, and policies and collective bargaining agreements.
- Provide guidance, consultation, and assistance to supervisees.
- Assist, guide, and help manage caseloads as needed.
- Provide planned and emergent mental health and SUD assessments of adolescent and adult patients presenting with a co-occurring SUD in a crisis stabilization unit, ED, inpatient units, and outpatient psychiatry clinics.
- Formulate diagnostic opinions and treatment plans utilizing the criteria of the DSM 5.
- Provide individual and group therapy services to those with substance use disorders.
- Differentially provide a wide range of therapeutic interventions including behavior modification, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and interpersonal modalities of treatment.
- Collaborate with members of the multi-disciplinary clinic treatment team and addiction medicine consult service to implement patient care recommendations.
- Assists in completing referrals for intakes into various therapy programs.
- Communicates with internal and external stakeholders regarding patient goals, progress, behavior recommendations, and placement.
- Assists in discharge planning.

Education And Licensing Requirements
- A master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Independent license to practice social work in Iowa (LISW), licensed as a master social worker in Iowa (LMSW), or as a licensed Mental Health Counselor in Iowa (LMHC)
- Three or more years of direct experience working with adolescent or adult patients with substance use disorders.
- Demonstrated experience with evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
- Excellent verbal communication skills; including demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and experience leading and/or participating as a member of work teams and groups.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience using email, spreadsheet and word processing programs and using the internet for locating resources.
- Ability to foster a welcoming and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences.
- Experience providing individual, family, and group therapy services to those experiencing substance use disorders.
- Experience using REDCap, or other, similar data-capture software.
- Experience working in an academic healthcare setting.
- Care coordination experience or case management skills.
