Position Summary:
The Psychiatrist, as a member of the Behavioral Health care team, provides direct care to referred adult patients and may be required to demonstrate age-specific competency, depending upon clinical assignment, in various clinical settings throughout the health center. The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing quality patient care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. The Psychiatrist reports to the Medical Director of Behavioral Health or designee.
The Psychiatrist conducts psychiatric/psychopharmacological evaluations for referred adults and determines the most appropriate setting for patient care, whether primary care, specialty behavioral health, or community behavioral health. The Psychiatrist offers expert consultation to medical and behavioral health staff in managing psychiatric disorders in primary care. In certain cases, and when appropriate, the Psychiatrist may follow the patient longitudinally. Responsibilities include education and supervision of medical providers, behavioral health providers, PMHNP residents, students, and other Psychiatrists. The position may involve telehealth and in-person work.
The Psychiatrist has clinical responsibilities in the Behavioral Health Urgent Care Service (BHUCS) and affiliated locations, including the Satellite Emergency Facility (SEF). This includes providing emergency psychopharmacologic evaluations and prescriptions in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The position is part of a team that staffs the BHUCS 24/7, which includes shifts covering all hours. The role offers opportunities for administrative growth and is in an underserved area eligible for the NHSC scholarship program.
Key responsibilities include establishing rapport with patients, utilizing community resources, diagnosing with DSM 5, documenting assessments, providing consultation, holding a DEA X number, referring patients to Recovery Services, prescribing medications, providing crisis intervention, screening for domestic violence and substance use, outreach, supervising PACE providers, diagnosing and treating behavioral health conditions, triage, education, psychosocial evaluations, documentation, managing complex patients, maintaining licensure, managing departmental projects, case presentations, data analysis, computer proficiency, staff supervision, claims management, physical exams, ordering tests, interfacing with families, and managing the BHUCS milieu.
