Location: Kansas City, MO
Job Summary
The Substance Abuse Counselor serves as a support system for children and adolescents, providing counseling, therapeutic intervention, and/or substance abuse education classes to clients to assist them in recognizing problems and causal factors related to substance abuse and developing alternative coping behaviors.
Education: A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
Licensure/Certification: Certification with Missouri Credentialing Board in drug, alcohol, or substance abuse. Valid driver's license and auto insurance.
Preferred Experience: 1-year experience working in a substance abuse treatment, outpatient treatment, residential treatment and/or similar facility that provides services to children and families.
Skills:
Requires Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as Outlook email.

Task Expectations
- Provide individual, group, and family substance use counseling services and drug prevention education.
- Complete assessments such as substance abuse evaluations, trauma screenings, and suicide risk assessments.
- Administer and document drug testing as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client interactions, including weekly progress notes and treatment planning.
- Attend and participate in weekly supervision and strategic planning meetings.
- Collaborate with partner agencies and co-facilitate community forums and initiatives.
- Deliver educational sessions on substance use, prevention, and treatment to staff and stakeholders.
- Consult with interdisciplinary treatment teams to evaluate and support client progress.
- Plan and lead group activities related to treatment goals.
- Assist in managing client behavior through intervention techniques as needed.
- Collect and input data for outcome measurements.
- Maintain up-to-date professional certification in accordance with Missouri state regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or leadership.
